Dear Ellenbrook Parents,

As you may have read in the local news, Salford Local Authority will need to create almost 200 additional places for Reception aged children in 2015. So, from September 2015, Ellenbrook will begin the process of becoming a two form entry Primary School. It is important to note that this will be a phased increase in pupil admission numbers. This means that we will fill the school gradually by increasing our Reception intake to 60. All other classes will be unchanged. In 2016 we will again take 60 children into Reception and so on. By the year 2021 we will have 60 children in every year group.

As in 2012, (when we accepted an extra Reception class), this transition will be thoughtfully managed. Integration will be seamless - in fact many of these children will be neighbours or siblings. Primary schools in the M28 postcode area are already oversubscribed. Every year we have to disappoint parents, by telling them that their Nursery child does not live close enough to school to gain a place in Reception. The uncertainty that this causes for our families can be tremendously stressful, and I know that many of you have experienced this first hand.

We were advised to wait until we were certain of the plans being approved before informing parents. Salford’s overall plans gained government approval yesterday. Ellenbrook is still very much in the planning stage, so there are many details that have not been finalised. The Governors, teachers and Local authority are working in partnership to ensure the best possible provision for future generations of Ellenbrook residents. The building plans have yet to be finalised, but the first drafts are impressive. We are to have a two storey purpose built extension, attached to the end of the Key Stage two area, this will house eight classrooms. I will send a link home for parents, as soon as the finished plans are available for viewing.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our school to meet the needs of our growing community. It brings great benefits, not least that we can now almost guarantee a Reception class place for our local children.

We very much appreciate your support with this exciting journey, but please bear with us, as there is much work to be done and we want to ensure that it is done in the least disruptive way.

Please post any queries into the white box at the office and I will respond as quickly as possible.

I will write again as soon as I have more detailed information.

Thank you, for your continued support,
