Friday 3rd March- Year 5 Homework
World Book Day!
Today the children all brought in their favourite books to share!
Year five had a lovely time reading to the Nursery children this morning. They each were giving a reading partner who and the Year five pupil read the Nursery child’s favourite book to them and they then got to swap their books and listen to each others! Take a look at the Nursery page to see a slideshow of the pictures.
We then spent the rest of the morning with Year 6 where we played a game of musical chairs. Each chair was given a book and when the music stopped the child sat down and read the first couple of pages. The children loved exploring the range of texts that we set out and had even said that they had discovered many books which they would further read which previously they would not have chosen.
For the rest of the day we continued to share our favourite books as well as re-write a part of the story from our chosen book.
Happy World Book Day!
Jodrell Bank Visit
Mars Rover challenge
The children were given an engineering task to construct a device out of limited resources which had to safely transport and land their fragile cargo (a raw egg). The children developed key team work skills as well as furthering their knowledge of the solar system and in particular Mars.
Is the moon landing real?
In English we have been writing persuasive speeches about the validity of the moon landing. We performed them in groups and tried to convince our peer. What do you believe? Could it really be a hoax?
Year 5 homework
This is the year 5 homework which will be due in Thursday 26th January
Choose two or more options.
- English– Over the next week we will be looking at persuasive writing. Can you pick a subject that is linked to our topic and write a persuasive piece of writing? For example, you might choose to write about whether there is life on Mars. You task would be to persuade that their either is/ or isn’t life on Mars.
- Maths – We are currently moving onto mixed numbers and improper fractions. Become a fraction hunter and write down any fractions that you come across in your day. If they are mixed numbers or improper then show me that you can convert them from to the other. For example you may eat 1 chocolate bar and ¼ of another so as a mixed number that would be 1¼ = as an improper fraction.
- Topic – What is really out there? We are currently learning about Neil Armstrong and what he was most famous for. The moon landing was a great turning point in our history, however some people believe that the whole thing was fake. Can you research the conspiracy theories behind it? You can present your research in any form.
Don’t forget, you must learn your spellings and times tables.
stationary, stationery, principal, principle, especially, exaggerate.
Remember to continue to learn all of your spellings as I will also test you on 4 at random.
Your times tables for this week are your 14s and 16s
We have been busy this week exploring the life of a Viking. We even had a special visitor who conducted a drama workshop all about Viking life!
Take a look at our photo’s to see what we have been up to
This is the year 5 homework which will be due in Friday 18th November. You may have noticed that on the homework and spellings sheet that ‘criticise’ was spelt as ‘criticize’. Auto correct on word had taken over and changed it! I do apologise for the inconvenience that this may have caused.
