A mysterious egg in Reception!

This week we have been very busy trying to solve a mystery! On Monday we found huge footprints in our classroom. We went outside to investigate and found an enormous egg! We had lots of ideas about what could be inside the egg and agreed it must belong to a big animal – an elephant, a dragon, a monster or a polar bear? We found out that the egg belongs to a friendly dinosaur and have been busy building a big nest to keep it safe and warm for her. On Thursday we received an email from our caretaker and it showed a video of a T-Rex stealing our egg! We were so shocked! After spending the day hunting for clues the egg arrived back safe and sound from a happy, clumsy dinosaur called Derek!

Our classroom has been full of dinosaur activities. We have…

  • Researched dinosaurs on the laptops and using non-ficiton books
  • Painted with dinosaur swamp paint
  • Enjoyed dressing up as palaeontologists to dig for bones in our Dinosaur Dig role play area!
  • Started our maths work on measuring and have been ordering ourselves by height. We then went on to order and measure dinosaurs using multi-link bricks.
  • Read the odd egg story by Emily Garrett
  • Learnt what a fossil is and used the art straws to make our own dinosaur skeletons.
  • Played Dinosaur Dash outside with our friends.

How do we keep ourselves healthy?

Year 1 Amazons and Swallows have been learning how to keep healthy with the help of the school nurse, Mrs Hood.

They practised hand-washing for spotlessly clean hands and know it is important to wash their hands after the toilet, before eating, after touching pets and if they sneeze or blow their noses. They don’t want to spread any germs!

Also Year 1 met The Veggie Gang! And they taste-tested a range of fruits and vegetables including spinach, cucumber, strawberries and sultanas. The children know we need 5 portions of fruit & veg to eat-healthily.

Artie Beat told the children how to keep fit. From playing rugby or football to swimming and doing push-ups Year 1 know to keep moving to live healthy life-styles and have begun to understand the job of each vital organ in the human body.

They’ve really enjoyed their sessions with the nurse!

Lledr Hall – Day One

We arrived safely just before lunchtime. After finding our rooms and meeting the staff, we had our lunch in the dining hall.

In the afternoon we used our map skills to ‘crack the code’ and took part in an orienteering activity around the site.

After dinner we packed up our rucksacks, got our head torches and went on a night walk into the hills.

The children are all tucked up in bed now and looking forward to a day of activities tomorrow.

First Week in Nursery!

We have had such a fabulous first week in Nursery! It has been lovely to those little smiles coming through our door. The children have settled extremely well and have loved exploring the different areas of the classroom and making lots of new friends.

We have shared our All About Me books, tried different snacks, painted and collaged, drawn our self-portraits, got messy in the tuff tray, investigated our outdoor classroom and so much more!

We are looking forward to meeting more new friends next week…especially a brown furry one called Boris 🙂

EYFS School Games Day!

What a wonderful afternoon! The children had a fantastic time in the sunshine taking part in our annual EYFS games day.

They took turns to…
– Race with the bikes
– Climb the obstacle frame
– Fill the water bucket
– Hook the ducks
– Balance the egg and spoon
– Collect the fish at the seaside
– Balance a beanbag
– Bounce on the space hoppers
…and beat the goalie!

We were very proud of the children who put in 100% and showed super sportsmanship!

Thank you to all the adults who came to cheer us on, especially those who took part themselves 🙂
