Reception Voyagers – Forest Schools!

WOW!! What an AMAZING day!! We have had so much fun… We used a saw to cut our own wooden medallion, made magic wands, toasted bread on the fire and completed a magical fairy treasure hunt! We also used lots of petals and leaves to print our own ‘Nature Ninja’ bandana! In the afternoon we explored the woodland and had a brilliant time building dens, swinging in the hammock and climbing the rope ladder! To finish the day we toasted marshmallows and sang songs around the fire.  Thank you so much to our brilliant parent helpers – Sare’s mummy, Zaki’s mummy and Harry’s mummy.

– Take part in a running race
– Complete the obstacle course
– Bounce on the space hoppers
…and beat the goalie!

We were so proud of the children who put in 100% and showed super sportsmanship!

It was a fabulous turnout too. Thank you to all the grown-ups who came to cheer us on and support us, especially those who took part themselves 🙂

Nursery Learning Yoga!

Nursery always enjoy their PE sessions with Miss Jancy but I am so impressed with how well they have taken to Yoga this half term. They have been down on the mats learning to move their body in different ways and create different poses including the rock, the angry cat and the parachute. They have loved it so much we have seen them practicing their poses in the classroom too!

Dinosaur land in Reception!

This week in Reception we worked as a team to build our very own dinosaur land! We used story books, information books and a clip from The Good Dinosaur to explore the different features of the world the dinosaurs lived in. We identified different features and landscapes, thinking of words to describe them.

The children were then set the challenge of building their own dinosaur land in their classroom. They explored different junk modelling materials, tools and techniques to build up their world – problem solving and discussing their ideas together.

Their brilliant team work produced some amazing dinosaur lands. The children have had lots of fun playing in the dinosaur lands this week, creating their own dinosaur stories.

A mysterious egg in Reception!

This week we have been very busy trying to solve a mystery! On Monday we found huge footprints in our classroom. We went outside to investigate and found an enormous egg! We had lots of ideas about what could be inside the egg and agreed it must belong to a big animal – an elephant, a dragon, a monster or a polar bear? We found out that the egg belongs to a friendly dinosaur and have been busy building a big nest to keep it safe and warm for her. On Thursday we received an email from our caretaker and it showed a video of a T-Rex stealing our egg! We were so shocked! After spending the day hunting for clues the egg arrived back safe and sound from a happy, clumsy dinosaur called Derek!

Our classroom has been full of dinosaur activities. We have…

  • Researched dinosaurs on the laptops and using non-ficiton books
  • Painted with dinosaur swamp paint
  • Enjoyed dressing up as palaeontologists to dig for bones in our Dinosaur Dig role play area!
  • Started our maths work on measuring and have been ordering ourselves by height. We then went on to order and measure dinosaurs using multi-link bricks.
  • Read the odd egg story by Emily Garrett
  • Learnt what a fossil is and used the art straws to make our own dinosaur skeletons.
  • Played Dinosaur Dash outside with our friends.

Lledr Hall – Day One

We arrived safely just before lunchtime. After finding our rooms and meeting the staff, we had our lunch in the dining hall.

In the afternoon we used our map skills to ‘crack the code’ and took part in an orienteering activity around the site.

After dinner we packed up our rucksacks, got our head torches and went on a night walk into the hills.

The children are all tucked up in bed now and looking forward to a day of activities tomorrow.
